Jacksonville, IL…State Representative CD Davidsmeyer (R-Jacksonville) is encouraging students in kindergarten through sixth grade to participate in his summer reading club. “Reading books during summer break are vital to a student’s grade-level retention while being out of school,” said Davidsmeyer.
Students who participate and complete the required number of books will be invited to an end of summer ice cream party. “Students who read eight books and return the reading log to my office will be treated to an end of summer ice cream party to celebrate their accomplishment,” said Davidsmeyer.
Reading logs, a list of local libraries and rules for the reading club can be printed off at Rep Davidsmeyer’s website www.cddavdismeyer.org, or participants may call his district off at 217-243-6221 and have a log mailed to their home.
“Reading throughout the summer not only gets us an ice cream party, but will also help kids return to school ready to build on what they learned in the prior school year.”
