Diabetes Event

Jersey Community Hospital and State Representative C.D. Davidsmeyer (R- Jacksonville) are jointly sponsoring a free diabetes screening for the public from 9am to 11 a.m. on Friday, November 13 at the JCH Wellness Center Lobby, Commerce Towers, 400 Maple Summit Road, Jerseyville.

The screening consists of a finger-stick blood glucose test. A two hour fast is recommended.

“Diabetes is a growing epidemic in Illinois,” Davidsmeyer said. “And we have one of the highest rates in the state right here. It is estimated that 1 out of every 3 people by 2045 will have diabetes. The sooner you are tested and begin treatment, the faster you will,” said Davidsmyer.

Nearly 800,000 Illinoisans have diabetes, 500,000 of which are unaware they have the disease. Yearly, $7.3 billion is spent on both direct and indirect costs associated with the care of diabetes in Illinois, accounting for more than 10 percent of all health care spending.

“Eating well is one of life’s greatest pleasures, and enjoying delicious, healthy food helps with diabetes management,” said Nancy Townzen-RN, Certified Diabetes Educator at Jersey Community Hospital. “As the Association marks its 75th anniversary, we want to give the people of Jersey County and the surrounding areas the tools they need to achieve health and wellness every single day.”

No appointment is needed for the free diabetes screening.
