Rep. Davidsmeyer Announces Summer Reading Club: “To The Library & Beyond”

State Representative C.D. Davidsmeyer (R-Murrayville) is sponsoring his summer reading club this year for kindergarten through 5th grade students in the 100th District. Beginning June 1 through July 26, Davidsmeyer challenges children to read ten or more books this summer to learn and explore the wonderful world of literature. Students who read ten books will receive a certificate of accomplishment. Libraries in the district with ten or more Summer Reading Club participants will receive a pizza party at the end of the summer for the readers.

“My theme this year goes along with the total solar eclipse over Illinois that many were excited to experience. Reading over the summer helps children to maintain and expand the reading levels they reached in school and helps them be better prepared when they start school again in the fall,” commented Rep. Davidsmeyer. “It is important for kids to explore their world and develop critical thinking on a variety of subjects including adventures, science, history, and the arts. Kids start by opening a book in the library and their imaginations can take them far beyond.”

The books read for their local library reading club can also be counted for Davidsmeyer’s Reading Club. Books of 150 pages or more count as two books.

Completed forms must be returned by July 26 to the district office at 325 W. State Street, Suite 102, Jacksonville or go online to CDDavidsmeyer.org and complete the form under the Summer Reading Link.
